  • Lousy Credit Card?, Pt.3
      Time to shop around.

    Previous...

Usually the best way to start resolving lousy credit card terms is to start simple. Call your credit card issuing bank and explain the problem. Tell them that you don't really wish to shop elsewhere and see if they can give you better terms. The worst they say is no. If they give you valid reasons why they can't help you, at least that's food for thought. Use this information to guide you through the process of selecting another issuer's credit card. This brings us to the meat & potatoes of this article series -- selecting your new credit card.

For convenience, you can start by browsing our handy home page. It's loaded with, not only dozens of choices but also, very helpful other credit card information that you may find helpful. You've probably already noticed the absence of all the frequent mailings for credit card offers. Alas, these are dry times. Be assured, however, that there are still lots of choices to pick from. You'll usually find that the best offers are not advertised at all. Once you find a credit card that comes close to what you want, make a note of it and call the issuer directly. Refer to the offer that attracted you and then ask if they have anything any better (they usually do).

In these times, you may find that the credit unions offer the best deals. Often times you join these credit unions by just paying a $20 membership fee. The Pentagon Family Credit Union is one such. Check them out along with many others on the CreditUnion.com website. You can even perform a balance transfer from you old credit card and get great rates to boot. How would you like a 2.99% finance charge with a 2.5% transfer fee? One of the best deals around. With a little extra effort you may even beat this deal. Check out "FatWallet"'s "Finance Forum".
