JetBlue Gets In the Frequent-Flyer Biz
JetBlue, the prominent low-cost airline, has partnered with American Express to kick off an exciting new frequent-flyer scheme. The airline is replacing its current rewards program with "Award Dollars," which are earned per each dollar spent on the branded AmEx credit card. Double Award Dollars will be earned for restaurant, movie, golf, and concert purchases. Currently, 200 Award Dollars will equal one "blue Point," and 100 Blue Points earns a free JetBlue airfare.
Holding a JetBlue AmEx will be a real benefit to recurrent patrons of the airline, who will effectively "double dip" frequent flyer miles by not only buying tickets, but using the branded card to do so. JetBlue is only the latest major airline to try out this scheme – its main low-cost competitor, Southwest, has had such a deal with Visa for several years.
