Best Gift Cards
In a rare display of levity in the card manufacturing industry, The International Card Manufacturers Association (ICMA) recently held its annual awards for the best gift cards of 2006. The awards have nothing to do with the perks or benefits of the cards; the kudos are meant for the best looking cards, displaying the best workmanship.
Best Buy's colorshifting snowman gift card, manufactured by Chicago-based Perfect Plastic Printing, took best overall. The same firm won "Best Secure Card" for a Discover gift card design. "Best Non-Secure Card" went to UV Color for it's candy-cane scented Target gift card. Other awards were given for "Best ID Card," "People's Choice," "Judges' Choice," and many other categories. ICMA is a non-profit collective of plastic card manufacturers based out of New Jersey. It has over 200 members around the world. Their web site is icma.com.
