Cancel Tickets, Get Refund
American Express has recently begun offering the "Event Ticket Protection Plan" to cardholders. The plan is free to all "Gold," "Platinum," and "Centurion" consumer and business cardholders. Basically, the benefit is designed to refund cardholders the price of tickets bought for approved instances. Cardholders can file for reimbursement if they must miss an event due to cancellation, car accident, jury duty, subpoena, medical emergency, call to active military duty, or death.
The protection plan is a real perk, considering that many major event ticket retailers have very strict guidelines on refunds, and tend to be inflexible. Ticket holders facing any of the above events might otherwise find themselves out the cost of expensive tickets. "Gold" and "Executive" AE cardholders can be reimbursed up to $1,000 per eligible incident, "Platinum" cardholders, up to $2,000, and "Centurion" cardholders can be reimbursed up to $5,000.
