    Vacation Tips 2: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

    So, you have chosen where you want to go on vacation, and you have an idea when the best time will be. Good job! Hopefully, you have paused to do some research (yes, again!) before booking your airfare or rental car to get there. This portion of our guide to a debt-free getaway is devoted to transportation, and how to get the most bang for your buck.

    If you plan on flying, start combing the web for flights as early as possible. The best deals on low cost carriers like Southwest get snapped up fast, so grabbing the seats on these flights before they sell out is paramount. Also, gather data from travel sites like Expedia, Orbitz, and Travelocity. If car travel is more your speed, the advice to start as soon as possible also applies. You might not think to scan the ‘net for deals on rental cars, but there are some real steals to be had if you are diligent and begin shopping with enough time to spare. If you have days to spare, consider the old-fashioned thrill of traveling by train. As this mode of transportation is dated (not to mention slow, compared with air travel!), you might be able to find some great deals, and really enjoy your trip. If you believe that the journey is just as important as the destination, this might be an option for you.
