News: CC Fraud; How Do They Do It? 10
Our journey this week begins in Orlando, Florida where police arrested Jasper L. Hall with nine counts relating to fraudulent credit card use. Hall was arrested at the Publix supermarket where he was trying to purchase gift cards using a stolen credit card that he had altered. The checkout clerk noticed that the number on the card did not match the number on the receipt. While at the same time notifying the authorities, the clerk began to question Hall about the discrepancy. Hall then asked the clerk to refund the charges, which the clerk did. Before Hall could leave the premises, an officer stopped him. During questioning, Hall gave a fake driver's license as identification that he later admitted belonged to his deceased cousin. Hall has been charged with forgery, false embossing, and altering a credit card; possessing a forged driver's license; and fraudulent use of a credit card. He is being held on $1,800 bail.
Up in New Jersey, an unnamed waiter and his buddies have been charged with+ credit card skimming. The waiter allegedly used an electronic skimming device to steal over 100 credit card numbers from his restaurant guests in the Jersey City and Newark areas. The waiter sold the information to a ring that used them to rack up thousands of dollars in unauthorized transactions.
Not far from Orlando in Gainesville, Florida, sheriff's police were called to the rescue of a man who was being attached by four individuals. The four men allegedly jumped a man while he was sitting in his truck waiting for someone. The attackers pulled the victim from his truck and beat him. They also busted the door of the truck with a brick, and then stole a relative's credit card that was inside the truck. The victim indicated that he spotted a gun on one of his attackers. The four escaped before officers could reach the scene.
