News: CC Fraud; How Do They Do It? 5
York Police are asking for the public's assistance in apprehending two credit card thieves who allegedly smashed the front passenger car window of a locked car parked in Short Sands Park. The two thieves grabbed the victim's purse which contained her credit card then proceeded to use the stolen credit cards at several New Hampshire stores to purchase high ticket items. The two were captured on surveillance video and are described as a woman in her mid 30's with long curly hair and a tall thin male with grayish brown hair. Police believe the two criminals are driving a dark colored GMC Jimmy or Chevy Blazer type vehicle. Police are asking that anyone with information that might help to identify the two suspects, contact Detective Steve Spofford of the York Police Department. Information and may also be anonymously reported to Crime Stoppers online at www.seacoastcrimestoppers.org or by phone at 603-439-1199.
Elsewhere in the state of New York, Sullivan County officials have discovered a skimming machine in a Bank of America. A scanner to read the debit and credit card numbers and a camera to view the PIN number entries was discovered in the kiosk. Late in the evening, while a customer was trying to access the ATM, the scanner fell off. The customer thought he broke the machine and took the piece home. The following morning he took the debit and credit card scanner to the bank. The bank realized what the device was and immediately called the authorities.
This is a twist. Ohio police are on the lookout for a credit card thief who is stealing from a criminal. The thief has racked up over $3,600 in unauthorized charges on a Belmont Correctional Facility inmate. Police have been investigating possible leads but fail to have any suspects. One thing is for sure. Whoever it is, is having lots of fun, the card statement includes transactions in Las Vegas including a stay at the Luxor Resort.
