  • News:  Linoma Releases Powerful Database Search Tool

Linoma Software recently released new software that assists organization in searching thousands of databases that might contain consumers' personal card and banking information. It's a concerning issue for most Americans who hear the daily reports of escalating credit card fraud and identity theft. Linoma's software tool called Find Database Fields (FNDDBFLD) can be downloaded free of charge. The Payment Cardholder Industry (PCI) has instituted data security rules that require organizations that provide retailers with electronic payment services remove all credit card data from its computers and server. It also mandates that when sensitive information is being handled, it must be encrypted. Currently the rule only applies to credit card information; however, it is expected the same rule will soon apply to Social Security numbers.

A major concern is that a system's administrator may have recalled the previously handled information and moved it into another database in another library for backup purposes. The challenge is that before the power system implements the encryption remedy, the company must first carry out a thorough search of all databases where credit card numbers reside and remove them. Linoma's FNDDBFLD is a powerful tool that takes the guesswork out of the process and does the work for you. The user simply enters their 15 or 16 digit credit card number and the search begins. When the search is complete, FNDDBFLD generates a report listing all the files that contain the information. The report also includes the library name and record number of the database.

Linoma's Chief Architect, Bob Luebbe said that the search tool will also give all IBMi customers and auditors the ability to find out where their systems might be vulnerable. The search tool can also be used by any organizations who have already implemented the PCI encryption requirements to assure they have not missed finding any credit card data.
