News: Children's Miracle Network and Discover
A growing entity in the credit card business is that of an affinity card. Affinity cards are an easy way for consumers to support their favorite charity. Typically, the lender will give a small donation to the charity each time the consumer uses his credit card. The newest group to partner with a major card issuer is the Children's Miracle Network. The charitable network is a nonprofit organization that raises funds in support of over 170 children's hospital. The organization announced this week its new partnership with Discover Financial in issuing their co-branded affinity credit card. The new Children's Miracle Network Discover Card will be the first of its kind for Discover. Terms of the agreement stipulate that for every $500 in purchases that the cardholder makes within a six month period from date of approval, Discover will donate $100 to the Children's Miracle Network.
Brian Hazelgren, Chief Development Officer of the Children's Miracle Network said the network has had the vision of partnering with a major credit card company to offer an affinity card to benefit children's hospitals. Hazelgren also noted that in addition to being able to support the network, consumers will enjoy the benefits of a Discover credit card. Dan Gingiss, Marketing Director at Discover Financial said that they are pleased to have an opportunity to give back to the community and to provide consumers a way to support the children.
The new Children's Miracle Network Discover card will reward cardholders on all purchases as well as a 2% Cashback Bonus on every donation they make to the network using their co-branded Discover card. Additionally, the new affinity cardholders have the option of donating their cashback rewards to the Children's Miracle Network. Discover is one of the largest credit card issues in the nation and offers a variety of financial products including student loans, certificate of deposits, and money market accounts.
