The authorities of Kanawha County, West Virginia are looking for a credit card thief who stole a card from a local business. The unidentified suspect used the card to rack up over $7,000 in unauthorized transactions. Owners of the business that fell victim to the thief does not know when or from where the credit card was stolen; however, the thief used the card in over 50 different incidents to make purchases for gas and other items in the West Virginia, and North and South Carolina areas. After reviewing surveillance videos from an Exxon gas station, Lt. Bryan Stover of the Kanawha County Sheriff's department believes the credit card thief is an unidentified white female, blonde hair and heavy set.
Easton, Maryland police arrested a man for credit card theft who turned out to be wanted in another county as well. Charles Edward Schmitt was arrested after using a stolen card on several occasions and is charged with several criminal counts in connection with credit card theft, forgery, and theft scheme. While being held by the Easton police department, it was discovered that Schmitt was also wanted on charges for forgery of private documents, several counts of check theft, and one count of issuing a false document in Talbot County. Schmitt is being held in jail on a $5,000 bond.
In Monticello, New York, an ex-employee of the Monticello Gaming and Raceway and his female companion allegedly stole a customer's credit card. Monticello Gaming and Raceway is a harness racing track and home to a relatively new racino. Security at the track and casino cooperated with the authorities to apprehend the two card thieves. It is believed that Daniel Silberg and Denise Berrios stole the card from a female victim and then used it to rack up an unreleased amount of charges. Both Silberg and Berrios have been charged with felony grand larceny in the fourth degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, forgery in the second degree and misdemeanor petit larceny.
