  • News:  That's Gratitude For You!

How's this for gratitude? A Wisconsin man lands himself in jail for spitting in the eye of a police officer and then steals the credit card from a friend who bailed him out. John V. Thrasher was arrested and charged with a criminal offense for trying to break into parked vehicles in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. According to court documents, while Thrasher was in the jail cell, he cut his head and police called paramedics to transport him to the hospital. While Deputy Dave Tackett was attempting to restrain Thrasher in preparation for the ride to the hospital, Thrasher spit in his eye. The friend, whose name has not been released, came to Thrasher's rescue and used her credit card to post the $3,000 bail. The woman placed the credit card she used to bail him with into the center console of her car. Afterwards, the woman drove Thrasher back to her house.

A week later, the woman learned that Thrasher had skipped bail and had gone to his hometown in Alabama. For fear of losing her $3,000 bail money, she went to Alabama and brought him back to Wisconsin. At that time, the woman noticed the credit card was missing from the car, however, did not put two and two together. Thrasher once again found himself in trouble with the law on the very day he returned from Alabama when he was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and for a fourth offense of operating a vehicle after suspension. Several days later, the woman's bank, Wells Fargo, notified her of several suspicious activities on her credit card. One was a Greyhound ticket and others are merchants located near Thrasher's home.

In cooperation with the investigation, the woman agreed to a recorded telephone conversation with Thrasher while he was incarcerated. According to court documents, during the taped conversation Thrasher admitted to the woman that he had stolen the credit card. In addition to charges for the card theft, Thrasher has pleaded guilty in five open cases that include crimes of criminal damage to property, bail jumping, resisting or obstructing an officer, disorderly conduct and battery. He will be sentenced on December 18th.
