News: Go Green With Citi
Nearly a billion people will honor earth day on April 22nd resulting from the Billion Acts of Green, an initiative organized by the Washington, D.C. based Earth Day Network's Green Generation campaign. Of the amount nearly 30 million people will use social networking to voice their support. For the first time, a credit card company has grabbed hold of Earth Day to capitalize on a new target market. Citi credit card holders and Citibank banking customers will get a shot of green this year. In line with its objective to make a difference in the environment, Citi has launched its new eco-promotion by Citi Credit Cards.
Citibank will be giving away $30,000 in cash prizes in its eco-promotion. Customers will have an opportunity to get a piece of the pie by enrolling in its online paperless statements program. Consumers registering for Citibank consumer paperless account statements as well as Citi customers who sign up for paperless credit card account statements and paperless letters will be automatically enrolled in the pot to win. Six lucky winners will received a $5,000 cash prize. The contest runs through July 10, 2010. Giving out the green includes more than the cash prizes, the Citi credit card operations is donating 10,000 trees to the Arbor Day Foundation's Trees for America program.
This is not the first eco-project that Citi Group has been involved in, the Citi Card division has donated and planted over two million trees worldwide and has saved over 40,000 trees through its paperless statement push. In 2007, Citi has committed to a ten year, $50 billion initiative to support a global climate change. The credit card and banking giant has received the prestigious America's Greenest Bank Award from Bank Technology News and the 2009 Promise to the Earth Award presented by the Arbor Day Foundation for the company's commitment to making a global difference.
