News: iPad Becomes a Credit Card Processor
In December, co-founder, Jack Dorsey, launched his credit card processing application for use with the iPhone called the Square. The new technology was the talk of the industry as small business owners and field personnel rushed to get the new credit card processing application up and running. The Square allows individuals to process credit card payments from any location where they have access to a phone signal. Dorsey has taken his Square application to another level. Apple launched the Square application for its iPad tablet computer. The new application is available at the Apple iTunes store.
A number of companies have launched their own mobile phone credit card processing applications since the Square has been introduced; however, none have received the same attention. The Square is targeted at a number of markets including the small business owner, traveling sales persons, contractors, field personnel, and virtually anywhere an individual might want to process a credit card payment. The beauty of the system is that it also generates receipts through email or SMS for both cash and card payments. The application has additional benefits to help you get organized with such things as keeping a record of frequently sold items and help to track what and where you are spending. It will calculate sales tax as well.
Unlike its competitors, when the Square was originally launched for the iPhone, no contracts or monthly fees were required for card processing. The company aims to help individuals and small business owners manage their accounts receivable business at a reasonable price by not requiring account set-ups and charging hidden fees. Installation of the application is easy and cheap. The program required the use of a small credit card reading device that easily attaches to the earphone jack. The iPad application can be purchased on the Square’s website. In order to download the application, you’ll first need iTunes. iTunes is free for Mac and PC users.
