News: Credit Card Fraud; How Do They Do It? 63
In New Jersey a former paralegal was indicted by a Morris County grand jury on charges associated from impersonating her daughter to illegally obtain credit cards. Stephanie Yturbe used the internet to obtain over five credit cards in her daughter's name and then racked up over $500. In Yturbe's defense, her attorney said she and her daughter had a very good relationship and it nothing more than a misunderstanding. However, this is not the first incident where Yturbe has been in trouble for stealing; she recently served four years in prison for stealing from a previous employer and another conviction for stealing over $3,000 from an attorney for whom she worked for as well. She faces eight charges including making false statements to procure credit cards.
Rapper Foxy Brown's name has been in the headlines, not because of something she did, but because of her brother. Gavin Marchand, Ms Brown's brother was indicted on credit card fraud after scamming the posh boutique, Hermès, out of $8,000. Marchand along with three accomplices have been charged with identity theft, criminal possession of a forged instrument and other charges for alleged credit card counterfeiting. The four allegedly used the fake card and then sped away going 90 mph. Arrested along with Marchand were Warren David, Derwin Benoit, and Ryan Campbell. Marchand also has pending charges in another incident for violating a restraining order.
In Florida three men were stealing debit and credit cards out of mailboxes and then used them to rack up over $200,000 in fraudulent charges. Ricardo Lee Penn and Jamaal Willie Williams have been arrested and awaiting trial for the thefts. The third defendant, Dorian Jerrel Cawley has not yet been arrested, however, is still being sought for conspiracy, mail theft, unauthorized use of access devices and aggravated identity theft. No date has been released on the date of trial for Penn and Williams.
