News: First Lady Gets Into Credit Card Trouble
While Americans continue to pull themselves out of the quicksand of credit card debt it comes as no surprise that the White House is also feeling the pains of excessive debt. The First Lady, Michelle Obama knows the embarrassment of being told that your debit or credit card transaction has been declined. During a recent visit to Spain, Michelle and daughter Sasha visited Spain's King Juan Carlos and Queen Sophia at their modest summer palace on the island of Majorca. A visit that was aimed at collaborating with the Spanish officials on ways to boost Spain's economy, Mrs. Obama wasn't prepared for the embarrassment of having her credit card declined while attempting to pay her hotel bill.
After their visit with Spain's royalty, the Obama pair headed off to the beautiful city of Marbella to spend some relaxing down time. While checking out of the hotel, the First Lady's credit card was declined when she attempted to pay a $95,000 bill. The bill covered a $273 a day room for entourage of approximately 70 individuals. In addition to the hotel bill, the First Lady's expenses included $146,000 in airfare; and, a motorcade to carry the group around Spain. The embarrassing credit card incident left Mrs. Obama in a pickle as she had no alternative but to resort to writing a check from the Social Security account. Some would question how or why she would have access to the nation's Social Security account.
Upon the First Lady's return, a look at the Obama's credit card expenses showed that they had numerous transactions that were dedicated to stimulating the growth of a number of various agencies and individuals. According to a statement released by White House Press Secretary Robert Fibs, he maintains that after a conversation with the President and First Lady, neither have been involved in these activities.
