Five individuals have been arrested by the New Straits, Singapore authorities breaking up a major credit card fraud ring. Police apprehended the individuals in the parking garage of the Prangin Mall in Komtar. At the time, two of the defendants were carrying 33 debit and credit cards on them. According to the authorities, the defendants racked up thousands of dollars in fraudulent credit card transactions including multiple electronic purchases. During the arrest, police found several of the electronic devices as well as several other items in the car that had been purchased with the stolen cards. The investigation is ongoing.
NASCAR fans are being warned to keep a close eye on their credit cards while visiting the Daytona Beach Speedway. Police suspect a NASCAR employee who appears to have access to the garage and pits is stealing cards. The thief purchased gift cards at the Target near the Speedway in Morrow, Georgia with the stolen credit cards. The suspect was caught on surveillance tape also purchasing an MP3 player and paying for it with the gift card. He is described as an average build white man. He drives a dark colored, four door Ford F-150.
A Kissimmee, Florida woman stole her friend's credit card and then called the police and reported the purse stolen. According to the authorities, the woman used the stolen card to purchase over $500 in merchandise at the Super Target. Elizabeth Jensen called the police and told them she walking home from the Walgreens when a man on a skateboard grabbed her purse and flew away. Jensen said her friend's card, an MP3 player, and other personal items of value were in the purse. During the investigation, the authorities began to suspect that Jensen was lying. She was picked up for questioning at which time Jensen told detectives that she fabricated the robbery to cover up her theft. She said she took the card and then threw the purse in a garbage container. In addition to the card theft, Jensen has been charged with filing a false report.
