  • News:  Swipely Offers A Chance To Share

Not serious, right? Serious! Just days after the announcement that the social networking Blippy was on the hot seat for allowing customers' credit card information to spill out on the internet, another company announced its launch of their version of a sharing network. Swipely is a new site offering individuals the opportunity to share personal information on all their debit and credit card purchases. It goes beyond many individuals mind why anyone would care to take valuable time to announce to the world what they spent their hard earned money on that day; however, there appears to be a market for it. Sites like Blippy and Swipely enable users to link their debit and credit card purchases to the site for all to see.

Swipely is based out of Providence, RI and has already raised over $7.5 million from investors like Greylock Partners, First Round Capital, Ron Conway, and former Google veteran Chris Sacca to support business operations of the sharing network. After Blippy's shameful and possible company breaking experience of allowing members' credit card numbers to inadvertently be revealed on a Google search, Swipely commits to providing a safer platform. Swipely's objective is to give customers a safe environment in which to link debit and credit card purchases to share new places and products to trusted friends. The company's vision is to "reinvent how people shop, share and save." While Blippy is challenged in recapturing the trust of customers in the wake of the security mess up, Swipely is equally challenged in convincing customers their product is superior in reducing the risks of sharing personal information.

If you're not convinced yet, imagine this. Swipely's premise is that customer are able to take advantage of the shopping leg work done by another in seeking out the best deals and fun places. The company believes that sharing can generate fun and information conversation in regard to products and other money making opportunities. Of course, if you can get past the risk of having your debit or credit card information leaked out for the world to view, you might benefit from the site.
