NEWS: TN Nurse Stole Patients', Doctor's Info

Police in Memphis, Tennessee arrested local nurse Gary Lamar Holt on suspicion of not only having stolen information from patients at the hospital where he worked, but stealing the identity of a Mid-South doctor, as well. Holt was wanted by Florida state authorities on suspicion of having stolen patient information while working at a hospital there, and was a fugitive on the run from that state – but a Tennessee doctor claims that the scam started in Memphis.

Dr. Meng Vang claims that he trusted Holt, with whom he worked at the MED last year. Vang claims to have given Holt over $100,000 to be a primary investor in a home health care agency venture that Vang was trying to get off the ground. What Vang got in return for his trust of Holt was a phone call from a concerned credit card company letting him know what Holt had really done with the money. It seems that Holt stole Vang's personal information and used it to apply for and obtain five separate credit card accounts, on which he charged over $60,000 in purchases. Vang discovered that Holt had purchased a four-wheeler, hunting gear, and a diamond ring, as well as took out thousands of dollars in cash advances against Vang's credit by forging his signature on the credit card applications.

Vang has filed two charges against Holt for embezzlement and fraud. In addition, Holt faces charges in Florida for stealing patient information while working there as a nurse. Police there say he bought two vehicles and got a credit card. Memphis police arrested Holt at St. Francis Hospital where he had been working the last two months. Memphis police state that, at the time, there are no other complaints of identity theft coming from St. Francis, despite Holt having stolen patient information.
