NEWS: Michigan Residents Get Big Shred Help

Michigan newspaper The Flint Journal reported that a monster shredder owner by Attica-based firm iShred, was in action this past weekend to help residents combat the risk of identity theft by tearing up their private documents to unassailably minute particles. iShred, which bills itself as an on-site document destruction company, showed up for Community Shred Day at Lapeer County Bank & Trust with its industrial-sized shredder, which is transported by a 35-foot semitrailer. Several cars were lined up already at 9 a.m. Saturday when activities got going, bearing bags and boxes of precious paperwork to sacrifice to the gaping jaws of the shredder.

iShred owner Dan Milliken reported, ironically enough, that the same day he brought his shredding behemoth to the people of Imlay City, he discovered that a credit card he uses for billing purposes had been compromised – proving that meticulous prevention can only get you so far. Milliken helped some forty consumers dispose of their documents Saturday, feeding the heaps of paper into the teeth of the nightmare-scary shredder, which can snap through a screwdriver and devour some 5,000 pounds of paper in an hour's time. Many of those that showed up reported having individual-sized shredders at home, but having amassed document backloads that were far too imposing for the tiny machines. iShred touts that it can help those that have a lot of documents to get rid of in a hurry, including banks, businesses and, Milliken added (hopefully joking), politicians.

At least one consumer, who runs a small business from his home, promised iShred some paid business in the future – that gentleman claimed to have some 60 banker boxes of old documents in his attic, due to restrictions on business owners to maintain certain documents for a fixed amount of time.
