NEWS: New School ‘Sup' Sets Good ExampleThe successor to a Nashua, New Hampshire school superintendent who was fired following the misuse of an official credit card, has decided to set a good example by not requesting a city card himself. Christopher Hottel, who is poised to officially take over the office from former Superintendent Julia Earl in the near future, claims that he doesn't believe official cards are necessary for his position – he'd rather file for reimbursement.
Hottel has been acting superintendent since Earl was placed on administrative leave in June pending the investigation of the claims that she had misused city funds via her official card. Research showed that Earl used her card to fund clothing from several upscale stores, meals at fine restaurants, and several out-of-town trips – including those foe the prupose of other job interviews! Earl claimed that she merely mixed up her personal credit card with the city card, and repaid the disputed charges, but school board members unanimously voted to fire Earl, who worked out a settlement with the city.
Hottel was instrumental in hammering out the school district's new expense tracking procedure following the incident. He stands by the fact that he cannot see much use for an official card, and, in the rare instance that he would need to schedule an official dinner or any other expense, he'd rather go through the city's new process of filing for reimbursement.
