NEWS: New "Buy and Ship" ScamThe Secret Service has been called to investigate an apparent scam discovered by Frankfort, KY authorities. The police were tipped off by an officer in the northern part of the state who fell prey to the scheme himself – thieves using stolen credit card numbers to buy heaps of assorted goods online which were set to be shipped to Nigeria, theoretically to be resold at much higher prices, as American goods command inflated values in third-world markets.
Among the items seized, which are now being held at Frankfort police headquarters, are cell phones, bicycles, perfume, clothing, and electronics. At least one citizen is being questioned, as they apparently became entangled in the scheme by unknown persons who gave them the impression that they were starting up a new business.
Many Kentucky state citizens who have had credit card numbers stolen previously have had goods charged to their accounts as a result of the scam being investigated.
