NEWS: Fake Cards in India
Three are being held in the
Indian city of Kochi for attempting to make a
purchase using fake credit cards, say local
police. Khushi Sarangani, an eighteen year old
model from Bangalore, was arrested with a former
sub-junior football player (also from
Bangalore), whose name was only given as Nataraj,
and a local named Mohammed Abubacker. Store
officials say that two other accomplices, one of
whom appeared to be a Malaysian female, escaped.
Police say that the trio admired and attempted
to buy gold jewelry worth Rs five lakh from a
local store on M.G. Road named ‘Alappat
Heritage.’ According to the shopkeeper,
Sarangani and her friends tried to use three
different cards: one issued by Citibank, one by
Standard Chartered Bank, and one by OCBC bank.
The shopkeeper became suspicious when he noticed
that one of the cards bore a Chinese name on it.
Sarangani quickly replaced this card with one
from UTI Bank, but it was too late. The
shopkeeper got the attention of the manager, who
confiscated the cards and called police. All
four cards were investigated, and found to be
fakes.
The trio were taken into custody, and later
remanded to the custody of the court by a
magistrate.
