NEWS: Fake Cards Seized in Canada
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police
(RCMP) took three people into custody and
confiscated hundreds of blank plastic cards from
a home in Port Coquitlam, British Colombia. The
raid followed investigation in the North Shore
area when a local business complained of fraud.
Officers began looking into the situation when
it became apparent that fake cards were being
used to perpetuate the scam.
Once police were able to identify the suspects
associated with the case, they turned their
sights on two residential homes. The Mounties
say that the first house contained the blank
cards, as well as the equipment that was used to
turn them into the cloned, phony credit cards.
They also seized a large volume of stolen
personal information and credit card data
belonging to several individuals. Their search
also turned up cash, marijuana and drug
paraphernalia, an unregistered weapon, and
ammunition belonging to it. Officers also
recovered a wide range of pricey merchandise,
ostensibly purchased with the fake cards or
their ill-gotten gains. Among the booty, police
say they found high-end electronics and
furnishings, fitness equipment, ATVs, several
motorcycles and a speedboat.
The second house turned up more of the same,
including a great deal of apparently new
furniture.
