NEWS: CA Man Held 30+ Identities
A Victorville, CA deputy saw a
strange sight, and figured something was amiss.
After all, two women sitting in a car with the
back door open letting a man jump in as the car
began to roll is just a bit unusual. So the
deputy investigated the incident – and, lo and
behold, the man was a parolee at large with a
warrant out for his arrest. Oh, and he was
carrying the identities of thirty other people
with him!
Deputy Josh Conley stopped the car, and asked
for the man’s identification. The man turned
over an ID that wasn’t really his. Of the two
women in the car, one was wanted by police, and
one was out on parole. When Conley searched a
backpack in the car and found a list containing
the names, addresses, social security numbers,
and dates of birth of several other people, he
asked the man what was going on, and who were
all those people. As Conley wryly reported, the
man didn’t seem to want to stick around after
that, and took off on foot.
Conley soon discovered that the runner was
Michael Vega, a forty-five year old local, was
wanted on a drug violation. Luckily, Vega wasn’t
much of an athlete, and Conley intercepted him
after about a block’s pursuit. His backpack also
contained stolen documents like credit cards,
social security cards, debit cards, checkbooks
and vehicle registrations, said Sgt. Jim Evans
of the Victorville station. Police are still
working to identify the victims of the case.
